Voting Question: Can cell phone GPS be used to know your location without subscribing to anything?
In a phone such as the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 (AT&T), which has GPS, I understand that if you want to use it for turn-by-turn directions and so on, you have to add a service such as AT&T Navigator. But if you just wanted to know, for example, where you were, where the different directions are, do you need to buy and software/services, or does that work out of the box? Thanks!

Ive found one called WeTravel, but i think its a bit basic, and only has major roads. Are there any (preferably free, but willing to pay) with built in maps? I want one so you can just install the JAR file and use it without the need to download maps like you have to on Trekbuddy/Nav4all etc I also want one that never has to connect to the internet

Voting Question: Whats' the fastest, most reliable remote desktop software?
Here it is - we are a tiny courier company with 4 vehicles. Since there's no Wi Max yet, each vehicle will be equipped with a laptop and Verizon mobile broadband card (max 1,5 down / 768 up). 3 laptops (out of 4) will have GPS maps with location, speed, ETA etc shown on their screens... the 4th laptop will be in the office, monitoring the other 3 via some nice of remote desktop software... Given the aforementioned upload speed, which remote desktop software will be the most reliable, fastest to load and maintain? Is this even worth it? Thank you in advance

Resolved Question: Can you recommend some trip planning software for off-road 4x4 Jeeping?
My brother loves driving his Jeep Wrangler on off-road trails. I would like to receive him some trip planning software, for Christmas. It would not need to be GPS-compatible, but he does have a Garmin, in case that is relevant. He lives in Virginia and mostly goes Jeeping in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. He has excellent computer skills, so software complexity would not be a problem. I have seen "TOPO" map software, but don't know if that would be the best choice. I would appreciate advice from any of you Jeepers, out there. :-) Thank you!

Resolved Question: Escalating Paypal Dispute, Am I in the right or wrong?
Hi, I bought a pda smartphone for my pal through ebay on august for his birthday. I recently got in touch with him and he told me that the item was full of counterfeited software, including the OS, the gps software (tomtom 5). The CD included was in chinese and the english manual in it wasn't for this version of the OS. The CD had a lot of counterfeit softwares as well... More than that the gps hardware is not detected/working and one of the given battery wouldnt even charge. I filled a paypal dispute and I escalated it clearly stating that I'd send the item back to the seller in exchange for the refund. Am I in the right or in the wrong, in paypal point of view? Thank you for your help! For some people, I was quite busy and didnt have time to meet my pal in the last couple of months :( I didn't send the item yet, but will do when my pal give me back the box with every the item inside. I'll probably buy him another smartphone, but a brand one this time

Resolved Question: What is the best text messaging (qwerty keyboard) phone?
I currently have an iPhone, but I find myself text messaging for than talking. And in my opinion, texting with a virtual qwerty keyboard is not that great. I find it nice of annoying. Once my contract ends with AT&T, I am going to receive a new phone. In addition, I already have a 32gb iPod Touch (the new one) so having 2 devices in my pocket with the same software seems quite odd. So my question is, what type of messaging phone should I receive? It has to have a qwerty keyboard. It can be from any service and the price does not really matter. Full HTML browser would be a big plus for me. If not, then the iPod Touch can take care of that. =) I've looked up a few phones and I seem to like the: - Blackberry Curve: but where I live, everyone has one and I nice of want to be different. I'll admit, it is a nice phone. The new Curve 8350 is supposed to arrive out pretty soon as well. I do not like how the 8350 is more of a push-to-talk phone. - Blackberry Bold: very nice screen and simple ui, but it seems too big. - Samsung Rant: excellent text messaging phone, but it feels like too much of a downgrade from my iPhone. - Sidekick LX: another excellent messaging phone, but it lacks wi-fi, gps, and its big. I'm not a big fan of the 2008 Sidekick by the way. Plus, it's nice of difficult to hide text messaging during school. hehe. Not that I do it. xD - Helio Ocean: i like the dual-slider, but it is an old phone. I also heard the Ocean 2 is supposed to have a touch-screen. I don't really like the Glyde because it's more of a "chick phone," plus the touch screen isn't very responsive. The EnV2 and Voyager are definitely out of my list because I hate having the "space" key on the right side. It just feels unnatural to me. Please help. Thank you.

Open Question: iPod Touch Or iPhone 3G? HELP !?
Story: I've already possess a iPhone first generation but its slowly dying, the screen is getting to be scratched and its too tardy to put a new screen protector cause it won't protect it anymore, The software update is really annoying lots of glitches and mine is Hacked/Unlocked so its impossible for me to update in a 10 minutes it might take me like 1 day.. The iPhone 3G is going to be the same story and its only added a 3G AND GPS and where I live which is in the middle east doesn't have good GPS and amazing speed of 3G. The iPod Touch is a little better cause the updating is easier but you need to pay 10.00 which is no problem, I'll just receive myself a new gift card from U.S and it doesn't have any problems but the problem is that I don't want to carry 2 items on my pocket. !

Open Question: Should Driving while texting laws be focused on the consumer, or cell phone manufacturers?
I read the blog post on Yahoo Answers blog about Driving while texting: http://yanswersblog.com/index.php/archives/2008/11/14/ask-mike-driving-while-texting/ Everyone seems to be giving their opinions on how the law is a good idea, but might not be effective. Here is my idea. Instead of making a law banning texting while driving, how about making a law requiring cell phone manufacturers to have software installed that can detect speed and simply disables texting at certain speeds? (they have gps, bluetooth and everything else...this is possible too) Or, should the laws continue to focus on the individual?

Resolved Question: How can I track my phone using the net?
I just bought a T-Mobile G1. I'm afraid I may lose it, or leave it somewhere where someone would just grab it. I wanted to know of there's a website where I can go and enter my phone number an track my phone. If not a website, maybe an application or a software I can install on the phone that would allow me (only me) to track it down. There's an application that comes with Android Market (GPS Tracker) that I can install on the phone that, supposedly, would do the same thing. The problem is, it is not accurate and reliable and it burns the battery like crazy. So, please let me know of any other good and reliable alternative. Thanks a lot
